The Village Green

The green sits in the heart of the village and greets visitors entering the village centre from the main road. Often overlooked by passers-by and unable to compete with the appeal of the village pond, its worth a second look.

The most noticable features of the green are the statuesque trees that line the the green and the network of paths and roads. These magnificent trees form a central part of the appeal of the green for wildlife and visitors. A variety of tree species are present such as Copper Beech, Lime, Poplar and Oak.

Swaythes of grass fill in the space between the trees, with extra special areas set aside as wildflower meadow. These areas have been created to help increase a now rare habitat that will improve the biodiversity of the green. During spring/summer an increasing variety of wild flowers such as orchids, can be seen.

Taking time to stop, pause and reflect at one of the many benches around the green, is always rewarding.
